Direct Mehod's Principles

''The Direct Method''

What I do like about this method Is the way of the students apprendiceship because I think that, it is better to get accostume hearing the target language everyday without the use of our mother's tongue language; however, I consider that grammar rules should be connected hand to hand with pronunciation and listening comprehension in order to have a better idea of what are you going to say.

It is known that nowadays ''The Direct Method'' is using grammar rules in order to studens understand better, but the most importat skills for me are pronunciation and listening as the direct method propose because it does not matter if you know a lot of vocabulary if you cannot pronounce it in the correct way. Furthermore, the reformers movement decided to add other skills besides pronunciation and listening since Roger brown documented his point of view of the direc method.

''Speaking'' one of the most importat skills of
 ''The Direct Method''
Regarding the response from the ''Direct Method'' against ''The Grammar-Translation Method'', I think the direct method is better, why? Because the most important things of a target language is learn how to speak and communicate with others, furthermore, some people have the ability to develop the grammar part of a target language and some others are good in reading comprehension but pronunciation is going to be the most important skill in a target language.

what I do not like about the direct method is when we do not have similarities between The Target Language and The Mother's Tongue Language because it is pretty difficult understand grammar pronunciation or grammar rules in a laguage in which exist a long difference in your mother's tongue language; we have the case of japanese language, I think is pretty rude starting a class speaking and writhing in that language if you do not know anything about it; so, there we have the contra part of the direc method because sometimes the mother's tongue language is needed in order to understand better.

What did you get about the topic?
what I did understand about the Silent Method is that students take a passive role, it means that they only receive the information that the teacher provides them and it is up to the students to investigate more. Regarding The Audio-lingual Method I understood that it develops pronunciation and listening comprehension through  dialogues and other skills, and it has similarities with the direct method in the skills they want to develop in a student.

  1. hello Jenny, i agree with you.

As you can see disadvantages and advantages are in every single method. we as students have to develop some skills in our target language, for example; Listening,Reading,Speaking, writing and some others. in (audio-Lingual method) as you can see it only focuses just in speaking user the target language, but theacher forget about grammar things and writing and i think that those are some important things because if you can't write grammatically correct of course you won't speak grammatically correct. that's my point of view. nice blog jenny. BLESSINGS :D

  2. You are right Gio, The direc method and the audio-lingual method have similarities in their apprenticeship. However, it is important to develop other skills like writhing and reading as you mentioned before. Thank you for your comment.

  3. Very good Blog Jenny!!!
You have pointed out some important points, Jenny. The importance of grammar in the writing of students that are learning a target language, and as we know, without any knowledge of grammar we are not so able to communicate or write in the correct way. Nonetheless, the explanation of grammar for beginners in a target language can be traumatizing for them. Why? Because they are not capable to understand the basic grammar rules at once. In my personal opinion, I think that teachers must have a control of what techniques he/she should use in order for the students understand better the classes they teach, and to for the students to become a good target language speakers. To sum up, every method has pros and cons but what the teacher has to do is to apply the best things of each method according to the student´s learning process of a target language.

  4. Thank you Felipe, as you mentioned before, the grammar part is pretty important for the ones who are learning a target language because if a target language does no work in grammar, maybe the students get frustrated with a lot of information, so, for me it is important that every method work in grammar. Thank you for your commet Felipe.

  5. hello :) you can say that again Miss Jenny.

talk is one of the biggest skills by which almost every person in this world that this learning another idiomaesta concerned, the principle is one of the biggest challenges because everyone wants to speak the language and for some it is very difficult by the fact that the pronunciation is very bad, I really like to have methods that focus on these com skills.

I share with you a phrase I found: SUCCESS IS MORE WHEN REACHED THEIR PRIORITIES ARE IN ORDER.

I think sometimes we say that the methods have many empty but we see that they also specialize in specific branches such as this method.

I agree with you on some points but not others miss, as Felipe said to be a good teacher of a language needs to stop the bad side and see how big and good that each method has.
on the other hand grammar is important, but not for a person who wants to speak the language,as a result they will hesitate when they notice, but the first point will be achieved thanks Jenny you are really nice ,keep going.....

  7. Thank You, Macal. And you are right, I think that pronunciation is the most difficult part in a target language because a lot of students are afraid because maybe their pronunciation it is not good. But it is necessary to encourage the students to keep trying because only in that way they are going to improve their pronunciation.
